It has been over 10 years for me!..... 
I had a sore tooth so I went in and got a thorough checkup, X-rays, wax imprints and the whole bit. No cavities, no root problems, no cracks....nothing......the dentist thought I might be grinding my teeth at night.......
He asked me I was under STRESS.........
YA THINK? 
Don't you love going to the dentist?

I haven't been since I was a wee lad. Probably 12 years or more. My teeth aren't perfect and I don't want braces.

I go approximately every six months for my cleaning. But the next one will be postponed until January when I get everything done for free.

Ew...I just remembered I had a dream last night where my gums were rotting or something so my teeth were getting loose and falling out, giant roots and all  gives me the heebies still thinking about it....

I am not a fan of the dental profession. I may have missed a couple of cleanings in the past couple of years. I did go last month though. urk.
My son, otoh, goes every couple of months to the ortho and has been twice a year every year since he was 3.

i see mine about every 6 mo now.
until 2001, i hadnt been since i was 4, that made for about 16 years... i had some cavities but i didnt realize how bad they were untill i had about 8 filled in over the course of about 3 months...
then i got my braces and the orthodontist and regular dentist became my buddies since i got to visit them so often.

about 2 years since my last, i have another 8 to go then to keep my schedule.
yes i despise dentists
last visit nothing wrong except grinding too.

I had to see my dentist on Monday about teeth grinding. I got fitted for a nighttime bite guard, so I'll be going back in two weeks to pick that up. I usually go once every six months. You're very fortunate to not have any problems after a ten-year hiatus.
Good luck with the destressing.
