First round could detour marathon
September 29, 2005
The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon might be forced to adjust its route if the White Sox host Game 5 of the American League Division Series on Oct. 9.
''If it's a 7:05 game, no problem, we'll be out of there,'' race director Carey Pinkowski said Wednesday. ''If it's a 3:05 game, we'll have to make adjustments.''
Parts of the 22nd and 23rd miles of the 26.2-mile race -- which has 40,000 participants registered -- are routed by U.S. Cellular Field.
''We've been talking to police, the Sox and Major League Baseball,'' Pinkowski said. ''We've been talking for a couple of weeks.''
It's just another headache for the coordinator of one of the biggest marathons in the world, but Pinkowski isn't complaining.
''I'm a lifelong Sox fan,'' said Pinkowski, a native of Hammond, Ind. ''I'm excited. I want them to win and go all the way.
''Part of the reason we started running by the park when I took over in 1990 is because I'm a huge fan.''
But it's more than his baseball allegiance that has Pinkowski hoping the Sox -- if they win the AL Central -- sweep the best-of-five first-round series.

| If this a-- - pony thinks I'm going to a different route to accommodate his beloved White Sox, he can go take a long hike off a short pier. I'm running the laid-out 26.2 miles - no Army-10 miler screw-ups for me!

I'm thinking after today's blow-out, the Red Sox ought to finish them off by Saturday! Then we can have our original route.

(for those who don't remember... the Chicago Lakeshore Marathon totally screwed up this year, causing runners to run 27.2 miles. And there was no last-minute re-routing involved there...)

Shucks, now I don't know who to root for. I was going to root for the Sox, since they haven't had anything for years. But I could also root for BoSox, since Pedro is no longer a Red Sox....
anybody but the Yankees.

Carey Pinkowski and Roman Madrowski?
How many Pollacks does it take to keep a marathon route straight?

Can't they just coordinate the schedules so it could work for both? The marathon has been planned for a long time. Accomodate to the marathon.
I don't get it.
I love baseball, but could wait to see it until all runners are in.

But the 'thon should have dibs for the reason you gave.
