I've fallen asleep 3 times in the stands, at different stages of my life. Naw baseball can go out of the games i feel. while i feel sorry for those that have trained for the games to then no longer be eligible in thier preferred sport, it's time to make way for more viewed sports

From the article:
"Baseball, which became a medal sport in 1992, has been
vulnerable because it doesn't bring top Major League players to the
Olympics. Softball, a women's medal sport since 1996, has been in
danger because of a perceived lack of global appeal and
participation."
MM's translation:
Baseball and softball didn't generate the television ratings we had hoped, so we're ditching them to make more time for beach volleyball and rythmic gymnastics. THEY pull in the numbers...

I think curling is winter olympics.
I can't find dance as an olympic sport that gives medals.
Equestrian baffles me because you are relying on the skill, breeding, and health of the horse as much as the skill of the rider. At least in table tennis your paddle won't catch a cold.

If that really is the truth (and I suspect it could be) then track and field events are at risk then too. Of course, they already don't get the TV time.

Badminton and Table Tennis could have been cut to save Softball.
I'm not too big a fan of professional players in the Olympics. Especially basketball, baseball, hockey. I don't know why, but it just seems wrong.
I don't think "professional" athletes truly care about winning the Olympics. I don't think they get how much of an honor it truly is to win a gold medal because they mostly care about their day job championship and their next million $$ paycheck.
There are some professional athletes who get it.

Canadian hockey players seem to really care about international hockey. Even the rich NHLers. Canadians have, what borders on, an unhealthy obsession with hockey though...
