Posted: 04/16/04 - 16:53 Post subject: Baseball Trivia (help!)
i need a baseball buff to help me answer this: which of the following players played together on a world series team?
Nolan Ryan - Played for: New York Mets, California Angels, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers
Brooks Robinson – Orioles
Tom Seaver - Played for: New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox
Yogi Berra - Played for: New York Yankees, New York Mets
Reggie Jackson - Played for: Oakland A's, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, California Angels
i got the teams from the Cooperstown database - but i'm having trouble matching up the era, i was guessing Ryan and Seaver...?
somebody - please feel free to impress me

I can even tell you that is the 69 Mets. Ryan wasn't used much. He came into his own when he was with the Angels.

I don't think Yogi played for the Mets. Wasn't he a Yankee first, last, and always?

You're correct. Brooks Robinson was on the losing side in '69 with the Orioles.
Seaver was 1-1 in the Series that year. Ryan only played in 1 game, and would have qualified for a save, but they weren't counted in official stats then.
Yogi Berra was a World Series regular with the Yankees. He played in the Series 14 times.

Didn't Yogi manage the Mets for a while?

Now as I write that, though, I'm really not sure at all!

The Mets' official site says Yogi managed them from 1972 through 1975.

He started as a Yankee player. Left to fight in WWII (D-Day invasion, even) and then returned to baseball as a Yankee. In '64 he become their manager but was fired after losing a 7 game series to the Cardinals. He then signed with the Mets as a player/coach, finally becoming their manager in '72. After being fired in '75 he returned to the Yankees as a coach and in '84 Steinbrenner made him manager for a season. Yogi then went to coach for the Astros until his retirement in '92. Interesting fact: Yogi is one of only a few managers to have won pennants in both leagues.
