Is anyone familiar with any trails near your location? I'm trying to find trails 60-200 miles long that I could do in the next couple months. Trails around here are either extremely short (the longest in the state is 26 mi) or nonexistant. I didn't realize it was this hard to find good trails. Confused

There are a bunch of websites... I can find them if need be. I think one is www.trails.com but I'm not positive on that. They are supposed to give you links to trails in your area....

There is 29 mile trail in the Zaleski State Forest in Vinton county also that has two campsites on it. I don't know how much, if any, camping is available along the Buckeye Trail.

I've backpacked both Pa and NY and highly recommend the Adirondacks region for backpacking. Pa has some nice trails also in the Alleghenies, Taidaughton State Forest and some others. One thing about hiking the northern states towards late fall early winter though is most of the parks are open to hunters. Find out seasons, etc.

Close to home would be nice, but I don't think that's much of a possibility. I've heard good things about the Colorado Trail, but I don't know that I'd get a chance to do it before the snow starts falling. And as for PCT... I don't want to do a section because there's a possibility I may thru-hike it sometime in the future. Shocked

I had actually looked quite carefully at this one. I'd definitely like to do it someday.

I looked at that one too until I saw that in the pictures you're actually walking in water. No thank you.

Surely not on the whole thing! I'd be leery about walking in swampy water too. Poisonous snakes, crocodiles, and alligators come to mind.

Although this part sounds pretty cool..

We do have crocs down here too. There are signs on the gateway to the Keys that warn of crocodile crossings!
