Yesterday Lickitysplit, Happy2tri and I ran the BAA 1/2 marathon with 2986 of our closest friends. It is a beautiful "rolling hill" out and back course. The course goes down the Jamaica Way into Franklin Park Zoo and back to the finish on the Jamaica Way. The temps were perfect in the mid 50’s and as it has been for the 3rd year in a row it rained on our parade. (It didn’t start raining too bad until I got to mile 11.) I didn’t know what to expect from myself. I was trying for a PR. I worked on Saturday and was on my feet all day and I could really feel it in my legs within the first 3 miles. My legs felt like lead the whole way. For most of the race it was "wow, my legs feel so heavy, I'm going so slow. That was a 8:17 mile. eek I didn't feel like it was that fast." Every mile was like that for me. I was suprised at my splits given the way my body felt. This is a great race because as you run to the zoo you can see the wheelchair racers, leaders and all the fast runners heading back to the finish. I got to see Happy, our friend Chuck, my Hubby and when I got out of the zoo I saw Lickitysplit going into the zoo. So much fun when you have people to look for. I didn’t have my best race physically. At mile 10 I got the mother of all stitches, I have no idea why. Lately I've been getting stitches on my shorter runs and I can’t figure out why. I haven’t had a stitch like this one in years! I couldn’t even take a deep breath. I just had to deal with it and the last 3 miles were painful. But I was able to tweek out a PR at 1:48:24. 8:17 pace!!! Dancing Banana Mike did awesome – he said the first 6 miles were bad for him but then he got into a groove. A real nice groove I'd say! I know he had a course PR but I’m not sure about an overall PR with 1:28:55. 6:47 pace. Dancing Banana Hubby did great with a PR as well with 1:38! He rocks my socks off! Lickitysplit has been having foot problems and she did 2:11:51. She’s going to make a Dr. appt this week. We did take some pics and I have to get them developed this week. We followed up the day with brunch, mmmmmm.

The best news of the day! My best friend Laureen has been a running off and on for a few years but never longer than 6 miles. And she would have to walk a lot when running. She went to the Ironman with us in July and said “I would never be able to do something like that, I can’t even run for an hour” I said “anyone can do it, all it takes is proper training”. So I talked her into signing up for this ½ marathon. She trained with her friend Jessica. They did AWESOME!!! They finished in 2:12:48!!! I was so proud of Laureen. The look on her face when we saw her coming up to the finish line was amazing. (Got a picture of that too!) I love watching people complete something they never thought they could. I think we have another addicted runner on our hands. I talked her into signing up for the Disney marathon in January because I knew she’d have the bug once she finished this race. I know she’ll do great! Laureen gets a gabillion dancing bananas!!! Dancing Banana Dancing Banana Dancing Banana

thanks for posting the RR, Dancer. Great day had by all, tougher course than I remembered, but still a PR day so I was thrilled, cut a 1 minute off of last year.
