I had the pleasure of attending the final day at this year's festival and got to see some great performances by:

Ween
Ben Harper
G. Love
Son Volt
the Flaming Lips
Tom Petty

ALL IN ONE DAY!!!???

First off, the festival is done brilliantly with 6 stages scattered around Zilker park. Lots of bathrooms, water fountains and great food choices (BBQ, veggy options, Amy's icecream...yum).

the Flaming Lips stood out. You might know them from that Vasoline song that came out in the mid-90s. (she don't use jelly, she uses Vaaaaaaaseline!)... Every song was a performance. They had 30 dancing Santas, 30 female aliens on stage throughout the show. He came out in one of those huge clear bubbles (he was inside of it) and bodysurfed amongst the crowd in it! Despite the theatrics, their music was great and I think I'm gonna go pick me up some of their albums now.

Harper was what you'd expect. And that is of course-->GREAT. G. Love didn't play a lot of old stuff and that saddened me. Petty kicked off the show with Mary Jane's Last Dance and Free Fallin, which I thought he should have saved for his encore. Then it rained and rained and rained so Petty took a 45 minute break. Came back and played 4 new songs and we left cuz we were exhausted. (then of course, as we were leaving he plays 'don't come around here no more'!) Mad

We went to an after show show on Saturday to see Okkervil River down on 6th street and they BLEW. ME. AWAY. They're from Austin but getting quite the following world-wide. check em out if you can!

All in all, it was an extremely pleasurable experience and I think I'll buy the 3 day pass next year.
