I feel like I should lose some dude points for having someone cut my grass. It is just too time consuming and I have too much on my plate to spend the 1.5 hours.

I lay it at the judge and jury of my fellow dude peers

We hired someone to do ours this year. As much as I didn't want too, its something that I can't do, and Jen is too busy to do it.

Local father/son who cut some of the local neighbors, he didn't mind at all.

If you think you need to hire someone by all means do, what takes you 1.5 hours can prolly be done in <.5 hours by a landscaping company.

That's +1 points for having the cash to pay someone else to do it while you sip iced tea and practice your short game.

I've cut down the time mowing grass by cutting a path to the clothes line and giving Mrs. P. a stick to beat the snakes off.

I'm not a dude...but my dad always had someone do our yard in Milwaukee. An acre, with hills, and partial woods was a bit much. We had our own riding mower, and the kid would use that.

Down here, Larry cuts ours, but he likes it. When we first moved in, the former occupants had been so lazy that we did use a lawn service. The grass/weeds were about two feet high. It would have been like hacking through a jungle.

Look at it this way. It gives you more quality/family time. I am sure that they will appreciate that.

Hiring a young person to cut your grass is a great idea.

You are getting a job done that you do not have time for. This is no different than gettting electrical or plumbing work done. You are also helping a young person to learn the value of hard work, being on time, planning, etc...all which will serve them well when they get a regular job. They also learn that there is a trade off...their time and work...for money. That nothing is free.

We have far too many kids who think money comes from Mom and Dad....

Having just finished doing my lawn this was an appropriate question.

Since I bag my clippings it usually takes me about an hour to mow my lawn. I can also assure you the fertilizer I spread out last week is working very well thank you.

There are days when I wish I could say no to getting it done by someone else but with 2 kids in college paying someone to do it is not in the cards. So basically I spend and hour doing some aerobic exercise, enjoy the sun.

Can't wait until next week !!

this is partly why I don't mind that I pay for a yard service. Our yard is such a biotch to cut. It's only 1/3 acre, but it's hilly, we have a bazillion trees to work around, plus all the stuff in the backyard. It's such a pain.

On the upside, when the toilet was clogged, I pulled it out and fixed it myself. I can do things that involve wiring. I can fix the leaky sink. I can install a digital thermostat. I figure I'm saving us a lot of money just by being a handy ma'am that I can splurge on a lawn service.

I don't think that letting someone do your lawn is a big deal. And you know, it takes me up to 2 hours to do it myself, whereas our crew can do it in under 20 minutes now, PLUS they blow away all the clippings, and make sure the pine needles under the trees are in a perfect circle. These men rock!

Lawn mowing is highly overrated on the dude-point circuit. Bonus points from me for being above it all...

If you don't have the time and can afford to pay someone else to do the lawn...do it.
