My daughter Rachel (20) has decided to start running. Maybe she sees how good dad is doing.
She went out with me this afternoon but had to leave after a mile.
She needs some encouraging works to let her know she CAN do it !!
How about it RR ?? Can you help ? Thanks.
PS Went to the "other place" for the Couch to 5K program.

How old is she? Hey, for her first time out and about, a mile is a good beginning. Just give her a lot of remding that it takes time and determination to reach the goals she sets, much like everything else in life. Did you get her a whole outfit and shoes? How about finding a motivational button somethingorother to pin on her shirt when she heads out?

Well, that C25K program at 'that other place' really really worked for me. Maybe she should start out slooooooooooooooooooooooooooow?
Heck, if I can do it.....she most certainly can run a 5K in 9 weeks...and she's got youth on her side, she could probably do it in 5 weeks!
GO RACHEL! YOU CAN DO IT!
edited for spelling!

Starting out today and running an entire mile??? I'd say that's excellent. Slow and easy wins the race. You can do it Rachel!

Couch to 5k changed my mindset toward running, fitness, myself, my outlook on a lot of things. It's one little step toward a healthy, huge future.

Dear Rachel:
Please don't give up. It's not going to stop sucking for a while, but there will be one day where the planets align and it will feel like you were born to do this.
I promise.

Rachel,
I'm 27, started running for the 1st time when I was 26. I did the C25K program. If you can already run a mile, you're ahead of the game!! You can do it! I started not being able to run even 5 minutes in a row, now I run about 5 miles at a time. I've seen wonderful changes in my body, attitude, and health. You'll get there, just give it a little time.

to what Alia said. When I first started, I used to run to get back to that point when the planets aligned, and now I have more good runs than not.
I'll also add that as a former shot putter/discus thrower/defensive lineman ...I never thought I'd take up running more than wind sprints, yet here I am.
Don't get down if you feel you have to repeat weeks...there's no competition to get through the C25K in the 9 weeks....it took me 11 if I recall correctly. Also, use the C25K thread in the Newbie Cafe on the other site (sorry PH), and you'll see how people progress through the program and get support when you need it from people who have been through it, and are going through it.
Good Luck!!

I think a mile is pretty awesome. It is very easy for Rachel to look at dad and think that he woke up one day and ran 10 miles. I meet alot of beginners and I see looks of astonishment when I tell them at one point in my life (post baby and move), I had to run from telephone pole to telephone pole and then walk the next alternating, and then turned around and walked home. I forget myself sometimes. (but I'm getting old and forget alot of stuff)

She's got the old man as a pretty good example.
Long may you run, Rachel.
