Anyone into Stephen King's horror novels? I'm reading one of his latest: The Black House and so far it's been chilling.... I think King really has an extraordinary talent in giving his readers the willies. Other novels I have read: (by him)
Pet Sematary (in my opinion the scariest one)
The Shining
Carrie
The Tommyknockers
The Green Mile (I found it touching more than eerie)
It (first 2 chapters)
Christine
Thinner (I watched the movie too)

The Shining with Jack Nicholson on TV was about as much Stephen King as I'll ever need...
But you're right, the guy is a very talented author. He is really amazing.

He is a certified loony. His mind is so bizarre for what he comes up with. It is a shame a lot of them do not transfer well to the screen.
Not my style though I really liked his Bachman books and Different Seasons.

I've only read IT
Another author you may want to check out is F Paul Wilson - I read his Repairman Jack series and they're awesome - as a matter of fact, Steven King loves the Repairman Jack too - if you believe what they print on a book jacket

TimRuns, you can't read The Black House before you read The Talisman! It's against the law! I recommend that you put down The Black House NOW, and go get The Talisman, read it first, then read The Black House.
I'm a Stephen King fan, but not so much for a lot of his stuff "in the middle", I thought he got into a formulaic streak for awhile. You know, same plot, different horror. My favorites are:
The Shining
Firestarter
The Talisman and subsequently The Black House
The Dark Tower series
Hearts in Atlantis
Insomnia
Bag of Bones
The Green Mile
Dreamcatcher
Prohemp, thanks for reminding me of Repairman Jack. I knew there was something I wanted at the bookstore!

Stephen King is my all time favorite! There is only a few of his books I havent read yet. I belong to the SK book club so they send me a hard back every six weeks or so.
My all time favorite is The Stand.
Others are:
Misery
Bag of Bones
The Dark Half
Hearts in Atlantis.
I agree with Joe, most of the movies suck eggs.

I will never ever foget how vividly he decribed the child vampire scratching at the window. Oh, goose bumps!
My favorite King novel is The Stand. I also like the Gun Slinger series. Just really fantasic. He's like the modern day Lovecraft. So many books, so little time.

I think I've read eveything he's ever written. (Except the newest one, from a Buick
My personal favs are:
IT
The Stand
Cujo
Gerald's Game
but, I must say, I've pretty much enjoyed them all.
Every time I read one of his books, I can't stop until I'm done.
I'm gonna have to check out those Repairman Jack novels.

Bag of Bones is his best work in a while IMHO. Sometimes he does so much character development that you kind of lose the story for a while, but....he has a way of describing things in a way that you wouldn't normally think to put it, but it is totally accurate. For instance, how would you describe the taste of a hot dog?
He just takes all of the things we hold dear, our kids, our pets, our homes, our health, our friends, and twists them to the point where it's horrifying.
Clever, I think.

My favorite movies of his were from his short stories in which the supernatural was not involved.
Shawshank Redemption and Stand by Me(The Body)
Although the hand coming out of the grave in Carrie was pretty cool
if you weren't expecting it.
