Posted: 02/02/05 - 16:08 Post subject: Atlanta drivers.
The idiocy of Atlanta drivers never ceases to amaze me.
I was driving into the office this morning, and part of my route is a 5 lane road (2 lanes in each direction, and a center turn lane). It was raining, and traffic was moderately heavy.
Inexplicably, a woman several car lengths ahead of me in the lane to my left locks 'em up on the wet pavement, which carries her halfway into the turn lane. Seeing her do this, the driver immediately behind her does the same, which causes the driver next to me to crash into him. I escaped, thankfully, as neither car swerved to the right.
I pulled over to see if everyone was okay. The woman who initially threw on her brakes also stopped.
One of the drivers asked her why she threw on her brakes.
"A squirrel ran in front of me and I didn't want to hit him," she said. She apologized to the drivers who were now waiting for the police to arrive, and started toward her car to leave. The guy who got hit looked utterly apoplectic.
I told her she might want to stick around, since she was the initial cause of the accident. She declined, and insisted it wasn't her fault. I asked for her name, which she refused to give me, and she left quickly. "Suit yourself," I said.
Needless to say, both of the other drivers were livid. They'll be managing insurance issues and several thousands of dollars of damage to their cars because a moron didn't want to hit a squirrel. The guy in the back was ticketed for following too close, which unfortunately was the case.
She isn't getting out of it though. DeKalb County's finest agreed with me, and they're charging her with leaving the scene of an accident. Good thing I got her tag number, no?

No. DeKalb was working up the chalk outline as I left.
Fortunately there are about 4 billion more of them in Atlanta.

It's not just Atlanta - I think it's everywhere, including Canada. Some of the finest displays of highway idiocy I've witnessed have been on Highway 401 in Ontario.

After college, where the squirrels were over fed rat-bullies who weren't afraid of people and would JUMP ON YOU to get your food, hair, whatever.... I have very little sympathy for them any more. Furry rats. GROSS furry over populated rats.
anyway, good for you gman

I've heard of them described as "Rats with good PR".
Wow--you had some pretty squirrely squirrel experiences...
Are you sure you weren't part of a Stephen King novel???
