Posted: 01/01/04 - 17:03 Post subject: Atlanta Resolution Run
The Resolution run at Technology Park is sponsored each year by the Atlanta Track Club. The course is in Norcross, just outside the Atlanta I-285 perimeter. This is a "no tee-shirt" race which ATC members run free with non-members paying $5.00. Although it is a "no tee-shirt" race the first 1,000 entrants actually do receive a tee-shirt. The weather today was sunny skies, temps in high 50s. A 1 mile fun run started at noon. The 5k and 10k race started at 12:20. This was a double loop hilly course. I ran into a few friends from the Galloway group who informed me that in my haste to get from work to home and then to the race on time I had managed to put my shirt on backwards. So I had to take the shirt off, put the number on the other side and put it back on. What a dork.
The run itself was a nice challenge. It starts off with a slight downhill before running up the first significant hill about 1/2 mile into the run. Then it smooths out for a quarter mile before you encounter a nice incline. The couse between mile 1 and 2 is slightly rolling but not bad. Just past mile 2 you hit a really nice down hill which flattens a little at the bottom before you start going uphill again to the 3rd mile marker. Runners doing the 5k get to turn in to the finish line just past the 3rd mile marker. Those of us doing the 10k repeart the above.
I wore my Garmin Performance 201 to get my splits compare the course route with the GPS system. The course overall was reasonably accurate. The 2nd and 5th mile marks were a few feet off but nothing major. My original goal was simply to keep a 9 minute pace throughout. But I started off running with one of the ladies I know from the Galloway group. Since I wasn't in a hurry and running this as much to test my new Performance 201 toy I told her I could run her pace if she wanted. Unfortunately even at a 9:30 pace she could not keep up and we parted right at mile 2. She was supposed to run the 10k but I think she may have called it quits at the 5k mark. When I last saw she was really struggling. I hope she did not go out too fast on my account.
I ended up with a 10k time of 54:38, or 8:49 pace. I had a good time at this event and enjoyed meeting various runners I see at other events as well as on some of regular course routes I run.

Free to members/$5 for non + a t-shirt? Sounds like a hellabargain for a 5K, especially a 10K! Great time with good friends - a great way to start your new year!

That race draws over 1,000 people? I never would have guessed it was that large.
This is the 3rd year in a row I had it in the back of my mind to do this race and the 3rd year in a row that I didn't do it.
Congrats on your performance!

Hey there,
yes i know i am late in posting this.
first resolution for this year, not to drink so dang much the night before.
after praying to the porcelin (sp?) god a few times ( yes i had that GOOD a time drinking AND skating at the same time) the race was well.....challenging.....yeah good word for it. I opted for the 5K for a number of reasons ( i think eight from the night before ) and ran a 26:40 with an 8:32 avg time. I see the Ga Reb was in better form than me, GAWD i'd hate to see me for another 5k.
was great weather, i hate the cold so i dressed for january 1st, we however got april 1st. oh well. during the race i had to actually take my cotton shirt off leaving just my wicking shirt on. sure glad i left the gloves in the truck. by the end of the run though i felt better than when i started. hangover all gone and ready to start the new year off running and rolling just a bit more sober now though.
