In the absence of God, Yaweh, Allah, Buddah, etc... who do atheists beg for mercy, curse, or make deals with during speed workouts and after mile 20 of a marathon?

Some of us who are bordline believers suddenly decide to believe long enough to vent our frustrations.

I think Atheistism is on the way out. All over network tv, in the malls, on the streets, you can hardly go an hour without hearing "Oh.My.God" in conversations everywhere!

there was a movie some time ago called "the End starrin Burt reynolds and Dom De louise.
The last scene is very funny where he almost drows and starts promising things like:
"Get me to the shore and I'll never have illicit sex again"; As he gets closer the promises become a lot easier...
