OK, first of all I am not for censorship, and I am far from letting religeon dictate policy, action, or behavior however don't you think this is the equivalent of stirring up a hornets nest?
if a non-govermental agency wants to depict their vision of Mohammed then so be it. BUT they already know for a specific sect of this group to be less than civil and not beneath using any reason to riot. I do beleive in freedom of the press (which of course is an American belief) but i also tend to think of what will be the major repercussions of this?

So maybe some Muslims can't take a joke? I don't see a problem with it although I'm sure it will continue to fire up the extremists.

If the publisher/cartoonist could explain how their motivation was other than to ignite fury and sacrilege, then by all means, express yourself, but even if it's just a cartoon, if the only purpose is to fan the flames and push the envelope of hate, I'm with Hyper, this is just stirring a hornet's nest and what's the point?
Let the press print what they might, but if it instigates a riot, destruction of property or what have you, then I think they've got some owning up to do when the dust settles.

The cynical part of me wants to say, "Well, they mock Christianity so other faiths are fair game."
But the other part of me says, "I don't like it when my faith is mocked, so I don't condone their faith being mocked, either."

you can't have freedom of speech without offending people
incidentally if this does instigate a riot or destruction of property, is this only proof of how prevalent and unchecked muslim extremism is?

I'd say it's further proof.

It seems to me it's much like yelling "fire" in a crowded theater.

if this were to happen in the US (sorry other countries) but what response would we do. I tend to think of the Freedom Marches of the Civil rights era that were led by the Black Panthers. Tear Gas, billy clubs, fires set by the rioters, cars lit on fire, store fronts broken, weapon fires by both sides. Bloody bodies shown on the TV news.
for you non-US types what do you think your Govt response would be?

Except when the Muslim-dominated countries do it against the Jews or the Christians. Then, it's perfectly acceptable

Yeah...but they're doing it in a country that already had muslim riots...that's just stupid.

Yeah. Appeasement has worked so well in the past.

You know the sad part about this whole thing - Is that many Muslims are rioting, angry over a handful of newspaper cartoons. Yet they are silent (for the most part) following 9/11, continued Arab-attacks on the US & other Western nations, etc.
Gives you some pretty good insight into their psychology, don't you think?

Based on hypocrisy? Really? Or do you mean that the outraged Muslim individuals are hypocrites? Sincere question.[/b]
