Will need one to mow about 3 acres of lawn on the WTR100 country estate and compound, plow a little snow off the drive - maybe 400' worth. Will prolly also get a rough cut mower to maintain a path around the hay fields - that'll probably be a little less than a mile total.
I'm thinking of buying used - did a google search and I'm swamped - anyone got any advice?

New Holland Boomer Series with a 60" Woods pto deck would be excellent.
Don't buy a Crapsman - they make decent tools and crappy lawn tractors.
Deere and Cub Cadet are still good tractors. A friend of mine has a Kubota and has had very good luck with it.

Why don't you buy a 4 wheeler and get a mower attachment and blade for it?

Get one of these Grasshoppers. I mowed acres and acres and acres of land...roadsides...tree farms...more land...one summer. 40+ hours a week in '94. I loved using this piece of equipment. You can get around trees well and it's easy to use.
I loved this thing! Really. It was my best summer job before I was rehired teaching!

My kids been riding for years with no problems... I, OTH, ended up in the hospital with a broken collarbone from a small incident involving a three wheeler and a stump....

The other tractor used in even larger areas was a Kabota.
You'd get it all done quickly then (the mowing part)

When we had our farm, we used a Cub Cadet Garden Tractor for the 4 acres around the house.
For the fields we had a John Deere 2500 (this was a used one we bought from Penn DOT). A bush/brushhog for heavy cutting and a flail to cut the fields nicely.

I have a Wheel Horse Riding Lawn Mower, it's held up very well, I've had it about two years and I got it used.
We also have a walk behind DR Mower--a walk behind Brush Hog. It's been handy for all the rose bushes all over our place. We got it because it's so hilly here, you can't take a riding tractor up and down the slopes.
Cub Cadet and Deere are good brands to go with.
