Posted: 06/24/03 - 13:50 Post subject: Any advice on getting rid of wasps/yellowjackets??
This is ridiculous!!! We've killed 5 nests (inlcuding two in between the panes of our bedroom window, two in one of the grills, and a big one on the front porch!!)
But they are infesting the backyard; literally, I just dumped about a dozen of them out of the wading pool, and they keep flying around back there and dive bombing. I know there has to be another nest, and I'd like to find it and kill it. (Being as I am highly allergic to the lovely creatures this is somewhat a prioirty if I am to enjoy the backyard at all). I can't really afford a professional exterminator and unfortunately the designated bug killer is working a TON and by the time he gets done it's dark and the wasps have gone to their happy home.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. The landlord is pretty much on absentee status and we are on a lease option so we do most of the maintenance.

The best time to spray the little buggers is when they are all in their nest. Get some Hornet spray and saturate the nests come dusk. If you do it during the day you will miss a lot of them.

Thank you, and that is a good idea, but I can't locate the nest! The others were easy to find but I can't pinpoint where this last one (s?) appear to be?

Ever tried these little traps?
Bugs check in, but they don't check out.

What the heck is that? Is it a roach motel for wasps??
(I'll do anything, I just want to be able to lie in the festive spongebob wading pool and read without getting dive bombed and most likely stung.)

Invite over the noisy, loud neighborhood kids you don't like for a pinata party!

The holes on those kinds of things are flared, so they crawl in easy enough, but aren't able to get out.
They work.

While I think Ms Elkid has the potentially best and most efficient solution for more than one problem I may have to go with those little hotels. Hopefully they will gravitate there and not to the pool.
(but so help me if I could just find the nest the pinata would be a better idea).

kristen, the Hornet Hotel might get some of them but it'll never get them all. You're going to have to locate the nest and hose it down with hornet spray after dark or burn it out if it's in the ground. there are literally hundreds of the stinging little ba$tards in a nest. I hate them with a passion having been stung a number of times and go out of my way to eliminate the damn things. Might take a while to find the nest but it'll be worth it or else you're going to have to deal with them all summer.

I am with Robp on this! You will have to hunt the little Bast@rds down and eliminate the nest. As evening goes on keep an eye out for all the little buggers, they will be returning home.
