There's a joke here somewhere involving the line "Did you feel the earth move?" - let me rummage around for it.

her husband had a perpetual boner.
even if it was pre meditated i think it should still be considered self-defense. it this was POW scenario and our troop killed their captor in his sleep to escape the troop would be sure to get a medal.

I'm not feeling too much sympathy for the dead husband. She'd have had better luck with the self-defense claim if she'd have called the police herself though.

I quite agree, on both counts. Sounds like it's possible the police kinda had an inkling though...

This is just a thought...if abused women and children were not prosecuted, found guilty, whatever because of "self-defense", perhaps the abusers would stop abusing because of fear of being killed by the abusee?
Weird story. These cases are much more complicated than an abusive husband.

Abusive spouses aren't mentally right. That whole wouldn't let her have a job and locking her and the kids in the closet business; that's just whacked. He was probably enough of a nut job that he wasn't too worried about death.

I wonder if many abusers even think it's possible ie. "she wouldn't even be capable of killing me and if she even tried I'd show her a thing or two..."
I agree... "typical" thought processes don't even apply here...
which is why, personally, if the defense showed she'd truly been a victim of that kind of abuse, I'd let her go in a heartbeat. IMHO...

I have NO experience with this (only what I read and see on TV ), but you'd think the abuser would think about it. I mean, if the abusee fought back, would it give the abuser pause? I know the abuser's thought processes aren't normal, but still, isn't part of it about power and control? And if that were threatened?

I don't either. So I'm only guessing here myself. Thank God.
I'd agree it' IS about power and control. But what I wonder is if fighting back makes the abuser work even HARDER at it? Which is why it would escalate into a shotgun blast to the back of the head, the ultimate fight back? Don't know, I'm a graphic designer not a therapist. I'd love to hear what a pro would say about this...

I think (and I have no basis here) that there is a personality type of woman who is attracted to an abuser in the first place, and that personality type is not an aggressive, 'fighting back' type.

I see what you're saying. I've known a couple of different women who dated, engaged, got married, one night for whatever reason he hits her. Filed for divorce the next day and OUTTA there, never looked back once.
