Urban schools have different issues than suburbian ones because, let's face it, urban life is different than a comfortable, bourgy one. Philly school teachers are paid ridiculously low, so the districts can't attract decent teachers. Add that to a serious overcrowding problem and today's youth's blatant lack of respect for authority of anyone, not to mention school staff, and it's not surprising it's a powder keg waiting to explode. That said, if I ever had kids I wouldn't send them to Philly schools except for the charter ones. They'd be at friends schools all the way.
And yes, Street needs to go. But he's not indicative of the democrats in Philly. He's just representative of the @ssholes.
Side note: notice I can take it when people make snide comments about my place of residence. Wish everyone could.
