It's a job I don't think I would ever want.
It takes someone who is really intelligent, driven and a little controlling. The toll it takes is enormous.
I'm not excusing his behavior--drinking and driving is NEVER excusable to me.

To be Honest....
I can NOT IMAGINE the pressure with coaching DI hoops.
I'm just a simple high school girls coach, and sometimes I feel sick to my stomach before games. (I have puked before games )
And yes, after a poor game...I have bought beer, and went home and drank it. Drown your sorrows...whatever you want to call it.
I keep trying to relax more, and enjoy myself more. But sometimes I just lose all perspective on the world...when that ball is in the air.

If we can scoff at Bodie Miller for pointing a finger at the public for pressuring Olympic athletes, I think we can say the same for D1 coaches. The public ain't to blame. If they can't cope and handle the limelight and the job, then they gotta get out.
Are we losin' touch with reality?! Basketball, football, skiing, whatever the sport, it's a sport, it's a schoolyard game and this culture is head over heels in insanity over it all. It's suppose to be a 'past-time' and it's all become obsessive life centered universes for so many.
Just a sociological mile high observation, but it's kinda creepy when you think about it from a big picture perspective, no?

| Quote: | Oklahoma State president David Schmidly said Sutton's future would be addressed after he returns from his medical leave of absence. Sutton's son, Sean Sutton, will continue to coach the Cowboys in the interim...
Sutton coached at Creighton, Arkansas and Kentucky before becoming taking over at his alma mater prior to the 1990-91 season. He's fifth on the NCAA Division I career coaching wins list with 794. He trails only Dean Smith (879), Adolph Rupp (876), Bob Knight (867) and Jim Phelan (830).
Oklahoma State officials have said any wins this season will count toward Sutton's total. |
HEY, OSU!
(I thought it was darn clever to post the above in orange, one of the school's colors)
I don't have a drinking problem, and I'm not coaching. Any wins this season should count to my total.
Dumbasses.

I remember a few years ago (maybe still) the football coach at Texas A&M was the highest paid "educator" at the school. Maybe this is the norm for Universities? Maybe he'd had enough tenure to make him the highest paid? I dunno. Akern is right. Follow the money.

I'm sure it is the norm. I can't imagine a professor with a million dollar contract.

I agree, I was going to reference Coach K.
With all due respect I know its a stressful job but I don't think it excuses anything.
Well, and I still don't like Eddie Cheatin Sutton, but thats another deal.
is it sick that I still sort of laugh at the Eustachy pictures that turned up?
