Hatten Park Runs, New London WI
Hatten Park is a turn-of-the-century (20th, not 21st) park on what is now the western edge of New London, but what was then must have been considered in the country. It is like many community parks from the era - large, with a low stone wall around much of its perimeter, with evergreens of several varieties just inside the wall. I enjoy the setting very much.
The race course is on a 1.36 miles loop (so the sign there says), about 60% is on paved asphalt or concrete, and the balance on hard-packed dirt and stone. The temperature was quite nice (mid-fifties), and skies partly cloudy.
Again I started out (everybody, now) WAY TO FAST. Like under 7:30. I was hoping to better my PR for five miles (:40:32), if not to break forty. After the first mile, I thought why not try it. Running in a big circle is very strange, and like last year's run, I never got loose. But the results were very good. Again, like the Lake Geneva race, here are the results, with last year's in red:
Total runners - 60 46
Placing - 19 19
Males - 42 27
Placing - 17 12
Time - :38:38.32 (PR) :44:18.00
Splits - 7:26.20, 7:47.28, 8:09.20, 8:12.61, 8:03.03.
Given that I felt tight most of the race, I'm surprised the results came out as good as they did. A nice day's run, and a nice leisurely drive home.

Steve, it was still an excellent race, especially considering you were tight at the beginning. Good job!

Thirty miles on that couse would be 22 laps and change. I don't know if I could handle doing the ten miles going around in a circle. But I suppose it's the same as any other loop course. It's just so round (that's why they call it a loop, you doofus!). I did stick around 'til noon - were the crazy people a team by name?
(oh, thank you, btw)
