Baby left in car = hella-sad
Yikes...do you feel for the mother? Or is there no excuse? (make sure you read the entire article to get the whole story)...

Hella sad. I feel for the mother, lots going on there. There was a case similar to this in Kentucky a few years ago. I can see how it could happen.

I honestly do not know how employed moms do it. If I had to go to work after getting so little sleep, I think I'd eventually do something horribly wrong...like forget to clean the cat boxes for a week. I like to think I'm somehow safe from making the mistake this woman made.

I read the article, and I just don't know. I have 3 kids, sleep deprivation is just a part of my life, so I wonder if I could ever "forget" one of them in the carseat in the car. I don't think I could.
However, I just don't know. I think we've all done things that have put our children in some sort of danger, even small danger... we just had that episode with the children's tylenol here. And when Will was just a little guy, he escaped the apartment while I was getting Libby ready for school and I hate to think what may have happened had our neighbor not spotted him and brought him back to me.
I also don't have a special needs child, and could never claim to understand what that family goes through. The few times my children have gone to spend the night with family, I worried. This poor woman obviously had a lot on her plate. So regardless of what happens, the worst has happened to her, by her own hand no less, and that's a fate I would wish no parent. There is nothing worse than the loss of a child. Nothing, except for being responsible for it.
So very sad.

I have forgotten to pick him up before. I pull into my driveway and realize what I did, and have to swing by day care.
Generally, all moms have like 16 things on their minds at any given time. And that's the ones without ADD. We enhanced folks have 20 or so.
A similar thing happened to a daddy here in Maine, except it was too cold, not too hot.
I pass no judgement.

Very, very sad case indeed. I think she will punish herself more than the state ever could.

A similar case happened like this last summer here in Philly. While its sad that it happened, I don't think she should go unpunished. She was negligent, and she needs to accept responsibility for her actions.

If the autopsy indicates she died from being in the heat all day, and the parents' stories check out, I feel nothing but sick for that poor woman. Having to deal with her other baby being handicapped and losing her little girl, I imagine this woman will take a long time to get her head right after this.

This is so very sad.
I personally have never been to the point where I would have forgotten any of my kids in the van, but I have been to the point of exhaustion that anything could happen. I could be driving and fall asleep at the wheel...
Sad story...
We get a few of these stories here in AZ a year.

She may have been negligent, but what punishment could be worse than opening a car door and finding your baby inside dead?

No punishment is worse, but she still was irresponsible, and she should not get away with this. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior.

Sad story, but bottom line: her fault, suffer the consequences. "Police said the mother was sleep deprived and under a great deal of stress." That description applies to tons of people. Still not an excuse.
