Posted: 05/26/03 - 22:03 Post subject: Another Madison report.......
Hmmm,....well the course wasn't flat, unless maybe you live in upstate New York, but it was a great layout. Madison is such a cool town, always a fun place to be, and to meet up with a bunch of fellow riff raffers made it all the better.
Overall I was pretty happy with my race, I was able to keep my splits pretty consistent and didn't have a die off in the middle that I am working on avoiding. I ran my first 7 miles or so with a group of college guys that were keeping a pretty good pace but then they decided to drop out. That was kind of hard because they were holding a good pace and they were pretty cool to talk with. After they dropped I pretty much was on my own for the rest of the race. I did manage to catch up and pass the guy in front of me with about 1/4 mile left in the race. After my running companions left me he was my focus for the rest of the run and i told myself I had to catch hime before the end so that worked out pretty well for me. Overall I finished 13th out of 1400 some people running the half, 4th in my age bracket.
It sure was great to have a bunch of friends cheering for you at the finish. Thanks Genie, CB, Mega, Joel and Joy, I really appreciated that. I think everyone did just great and I hope we can all do this again.

folks, Genie, CB, Joel, Joy and I were perched about 1/10th of a mile or so from the finish line and had a clear view as the half marathoners turned on to the parkway to head for the finish...we were expecting Cjay to be the first riff-raffer to come in...and things were pretty quiet...Rod DeHaven (olympic marathoner from madison) was the first half-marathoner in at about 1:12 and then it was pretty quiet, just one a minute or so coming in...and then we saw Cory and let out a loud cheer...he was smoking towards the finish line folks, man did he look strong, focused and fast....1:22 ~ 13th out 1500 and 4th in age group, those are some pretty wicked numbers...congrats on a job very well done....

That must really be something to be able to 'chat' with other runners while you run at a 6:16 / mi. pace.
Congrats on such a strong finish, way to represent the Riff-Raff.

Yup, Cory is one faaaast dude. My family watched as the half marathoners crossed the finish line and were so impressed with Cory's fisnish. My mom said: geesh, he didn't look like he just ran a half marathon! Truly impressive.
Excellent! Fantastic.

Cory you represented RR very well. Great race. It was nice meeting you and getting to hang out. I hope some time we can do it again in the not so distant future.

I kept Cjay in my sights for the first oh, quarter mile...then I just followed the streak of melted asphalt. Yep, a riff-raff legend for sure. (I think it's the power of the mustache)
What more can I say, pleasure to meet ya, and big kudos on a great race.
