Rescued and reunited with his lost mother was on very new born baby bird. Almost eaten by my lawnmower. Picked him up, gave him some water, found where mom was, and reunited.
There. Compassionate conservative here

Sure, you make the nice gesture for the media. But then you're talking about hiring someone to cut your grass, and they'll just run the animals over.

I rescued a young painted turtle last week and returned it to it's natural environment. This little dude was barely bigger in diameter than a quarter and was roaming down one of the alley ways here at work. He was a minimum of 1/4 mile from any water source or even an area suitable for his mom to have hatched him. How he got there I haven't a clue - possibly in the beak of a heron or other bird of prey who was trying for some turtle stew. I picked him up, put him in my lunch cooler and walked him over to the creek that flows behind my parking lot. Put him in the grass at the edge and he literally did a turtle sprint for the water.
Animal rescues of my career include numerous rabbits and birds, a groundhog and an attempted rescue of weasel that got hit by a car. The weasel didn't make it and he hated the fact I was trying to save him. What a nasty little sob.....
