Well, friends, today was my trip to the neuro. She did a whole battery of testing, the doctor did, along with the extensive, detailed quesioning about my attacks.

She has concluded that the ER was correct, and that I do have TN.

Do not despair. I'm not. The one thing the neuro found odd was that TN develops in people in their fifties, sixties, and seventies. Just proving - once again - that I'm ahead of the times Razz . This condition has been known to attack some people just once in their lifetime. And as I have not had any episodes for about 2 1/2-3 weeks, she did not do, or schedule, any scans, MRIs, or follow-ups with her (for now). She did give me a prescription for Carbamazepine (which you may know better as Tergetol), to take only when symptoms start to develop. And fortunately, it's not addictive and doesn't make one drowsy. Heavy machinery, here I come!

Thank you all for your expressions of support and concern, both in my original post about this, and in the follow-ups you have made to me. I will be OK. But I'd rather some of you with your problems would have gotten better first.

thumbs up

Trigeminal Neuralgia. It's the equivalent of the pain of kideny stones on the side of your face, squared.

I mentioned this back in early April (the 6th, I think) in the thread "Fun 'n' Games in the Emergency Room." For info, descriptions, etc, go to www.tna-support.org .

I'm sorry some of you hadn't seen this before. After you read the above, you may wish you hadn't. Shocked

Oh, like child birth pain for your face? Well, you know what they say. You'll forget all about it when it's over. Smile

Man, I'm so glad you have answers. Maybe not the answer you wanted, but it's better than knowing nothing. I am so glad your attacks have been sporadic. I am also glad that you have a compassionate doc that is listening to you.

You deserve the best.

so i did a search for trhe G'dawg and see i missed the MRI deal. G'dawg, sorry about the TN. it does not sound fun at all, here i thought my allergy sinus pain was horrid.

i hope the Carbemezapine works.

Pay attention to the coding as well. just being in the field myself i can see some issues alreay on this. if ya want to PM me and we can get technical.

I had missed the original post too, but I'm glad you have a name for it, and a game plan. (not to mention a good doc)
