here's what it says:

First the bad news. As much as we wanted to save the marathon for 2004 we
were unable to get the corporate backing we needed despite the help of 3
major
corporations who had their personnel do the $$$ solicitation. Many of the
companies we discussed sponsorship with said they wanted to help, but it was
too late in their
2004 budget process to allow them to give us the money we needed. Rather
than try to do the race on a shoestring budget we have opted to cease our
efforts for 2004
and look to 2005! If you would like to be part of a newly formed marathon
organization, please contact Kevin at Elite Runners & Walkers as he is the
point person. We
have a name and a course already set up, we just need to get our budgetary
process going so we can apply to the city and make sure Pittsburgh never
goes without its
own marathon again.
Now the good News!!!!
Mike Radley of the Pittsburgh Citiparks division has notified me that they
are reorganizing the Richard S. Caliguiri Great Race and it will go on for
2004! Mike has been
the race director for years and was deeply saddened when this race took a
hit as did many of the employees in his department. However, he is
persevering and is
working diligently to make the runners of this area proud. Spread the word
to once again set aside the the last Sunday in September.
