Posted: 11/24/04 - 08:48 Post subject: Amazing Race 6-2 Recap 11-23-2004
amazing race 6 episode 2 "I'm Not His Wife, He Doesn't Have To Scream At Me"
PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:
Eleven teams started in Chicago, raced to Iceland. Married wrestlers Lori/Bolo began the race in good spirits, but heat of battle caused them to melt down. Adam/Rebecca made a costly mistake (diesel/gas). Married entrepreneurs Jonathan/Victoria were at each other's throats. Avi/Joe made an early alliance with Gus/Hera, but when it mattered most, lost their trust. They came in last and were eliminated.
Ten teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?
Here's something new.
ROADBLOCK.
Phil: New rule. No person can perform more than 6 roadblocks in the entire race.
As a recap here's the players in the order they finished.
1. Kris and Jon are dating long-distance between Long Beach, California and Scottsdale, Arizona, respectively. They met in Scottsdale on Kris' 30th birthday, when Jon was tending bar at the club where she was celebrating. They've been passionately in love ever since, but his career (he is part owner of the club) and her responsibilities at school have kept them in a long-distance relationship.
2. Jonathan & Victoria were set up on a blind date seven years ago, and have been married for three years. They reside in Los Angeles, where Jonathan is an entrepreneur who owns a spa as well as other business ventures, and Victoria is a model/ pop artist painter. They decided to go on the Race in hopes of getting their relationship back on track after many grueling discussions about starting a family that have taken a toll on their marriage.
3. Gus & Hera are a father and daughter from and Gaithersburg, Maryland and Los Angeles, California, respectively. Gus is a former CIA agent, covert operative and the first person to fly an open-cockpit plane to the North Pole. Hera is a special education teacher and holds a Masters degree in special education with a cross-cultural emphasis.
4.Hayden & Aaron are both models and are trying to pursue acting careers in Los Angeles. They feel that THE AMAZING RACE will bring them closer together as a couple and maybe help take their relationship to the next level.
5.Lori & Bolo reside in the small country town of Molino, Florida and have been together for eight years. Bolo is a professional wrestler and Lori is a barrel horse racer.
Throughout the years, Lori spent time watching Bolo train for wrestling and decided that she could also do it and jumped in the ring. Although she has worked as a professional wrestler, she is now concentrating on horse racing and hopes to compete in professional rodeos in the near future. Bolo describes his wife as a mix between Jennifer Aniston and professional wrestler Chyna.
Phil: Freddy/Kendra, you're the 6th team to arrive. But you broke a rule. Freddy, you took a 2nd clue. The rules are clear. Only one clue. A 30 minute penalty. Step off the mat and wait 30 minutes.
6.Adam & Rebecca are an ex-couple that met at a spinning class. Rebecca's first impression of Adam was that he was gay, but after he pursued her for months, he proved otherwise. Both of them are spinning teachers/personal trainers.
7. Don & Mary Jean have been married for 20 years and live in Portola Valley, California. Between them they have six children and 16 grandchildren, all from previous marriages. They met almost 27 years ago through mutual friends while they were both married to other people. Donald is a physician, and Mary Jean is an interior designer.
8. Freddy & Kendra are an engaged couple from Miami, Florida. They met over two years ago when they were booked together on a modeling job. At the time, Kendra lived in New York City, but six weeks later, she moved back to Miami, and they've been together ever since.
9. Lena & Kristy are sisters who grew up in Utah. In the Fall, Kristy will be starting her last year of college at University of Utah. She is the single mother of an eight-year-old daughter, Madison. She recently took a few months off from school to move to Denmark with her daughter.
Lena is a student and former striptease aerobics instructor. She also put college on hold so she could travel abroad, but is planning to return to school after the Race. She describes herself as outgoing, happy and competitive.
Eliminated
10. Meredith & Maria are friends and roommates from Queens, New York. They met on the last day of classes freshman year at Boston University, when Meredith found Maria's ID on the floor of a bar. At first, Maria gave Meredith attitude about having her ID, but the two of them ended up living next door to each other the following year and became great friends

Love the new Roadblock rule where no one person can perform more than six Roadblocks. Should be interesting to find out how this changes things later on, when teams discover that they didn't plan well and the weaker member is stuck doing the mountain climbing.
Not a good year if you are from New York 0-3
I love that the teams are having to navigate themselves a lot so far. The race is about skill and street smarts, not whether you've got a good taxi driver.
Ooh, MJ's pissed. Though she has a damn good point that Don totally took over the ski jump Roadblock, even though they'd agreed in advance she'd do height-related tasks. I hope she kicks his ass over that.
Jonathan and Victoria are totally Charla and Mirna, but without the charm. I *love* them because they're so damn entertaining, especially how she was exhanging dirty looks with the sisters. Jonathan? SUCH an @sshole.
BWAH! "Is there a senior discount for old people?" Don is fabulous!
Bolo: "Let's do accuracy." "But accuracy means you've gotta be accurate." Obviously, Bolo's wrestling nickname is not The MENSA Avenger.
Ooh, penalty! I heard in advance someone would get a penalty (it said so in the TV guide) but I expected it to be the sisters for picking up that guy at the airport to help navigate.

I still don't like any of them. I totally missed the rule about not doing the roadblock more than 6 times.

This was added in this edition of TAR after Chip & Colin 7 Brandon did all the Roadblock task and the feeling is mixed couples need to share the load instead of the women having the men do all the hard tasks.
Also it becomes a bit of stragety later on as a taks suited for a man/woman will force you to play to your weaker teammate if you don't balance out the "Roanblock" challenges.
Have yet to see the Yield, I'm guessing its there but won't play a vital role till the last to four epsodes.

The Yield doesn't seem to usually have much value. Pretty much any sized lead on this show seems to disappear rapidly.
I do like the idea of forcing the weaker member to do the roadblocks. It'll cause more drama.

I'm having a hard time picking a favorite. The friends that were eliminated seemed like the only ones that aren't going to scream at each other....besides Gus and Hera. I'm kind of liking the sisters, but feel that they will use their female status to their advantage in a way that I can't agree with. Right now, I find myself being happy with Gus and Hera for every week they remain in the contest, but I do think it won't last. Physically they are the underdogs and I can't see them as being nasty enough to get an advantage over these other rude human beings. So for now, go Gus and Hera!

I'm leaning towards Lori & Bolo this season due to the contrast they present from the other teams. Lori does the driving, Bolo gives and ask directions. There are one of the fitter teams as far as muscle but tasks involving speed or climbing/walking are their weakness.
If there finish between 2-5 they will prove to be tough to beat in any roadblock that involveds physical skill. The flip side is they need to be better prpared in tasks involving mental skills (next week will be a big test).
I have a request.
If someone could take over the recap for next week since I'll be out of town and not sure if the wireless network will go into the fla keys.

It's really too early to pick a team I think might win. I would never have said Chip and Kim would win last year, only that I wanted them too. They were consistently in the back of the back every episode until closer to the end, but the held on long enough to be able to compete at the end.

Hellboy was hillarious last night. That was a classic quote. Then he was all lovey-dovey drama queen when they were about to board the train. Classic stuff.
Jonathan is a complete a-hole. I hope they lose soon.

Really? Maybe it was just the feeling I got from them after the first three weeks, then.

Sure seems to be a lot of anymosity between couples this time around. I thought the wrestlers would be the worst. Not even close! I've never seen so much b!tching. Sadly, it almost makes me want to turn it off.

I see that as well and contribute it to the teams thinking that they need to be first and not last. Also in the last two weeks have you notice the teams reading the clues but not reading the directions of the clues in their quest to get to location A.
Also most of the teams are not getting the country guide books.
And what is it with the word "Baby" I mean Nicole turned me off to it and now after two weeks all this baby stuff is driving me bonkers.
