It's not often that the paper prints a headline that is just so blatantly wrong. Kinda "Dewey Defeats Truman"-ish.

Wow-the paper went to the presses with that? (The mining accident)
I know the papers go out at 2 or 3 am, but that's a big thing to go to the presses with.

ours had like a 5-inch high ultra bolded headline: 12 alive.
it is the ultimate painful reminder. i'd never keep it.

The papers went to press with the story that the miners had lived, when this was the wrong information. THe reporters received this information erroneously from the rescue workers and went topress with it. All the papers around the country....
Then, 4 hours later, they found out that in fact, the miners were not alive after all.

Geeze, that is pretty awful.
I found the story online. Those poor families.

Yes, that's awful. I don't read print media, I found out on the internet this am, then turned the TV and found all the details.
Keep the paper or not, I don't really have an opinion on. If one of your kids has an interest in journalism, this would be a good thing to pull out years later and explain. Or, hate to say it, I'm sure there's a market for it on Ebay.
I've been pretty upset by the mining accident, which is pretty irrational. No one in the family (my family is from WV) is currently a coal miner-my uncle Leonard retired from the mines a few years ago, my Dad came north in the 50's from the mines. But when the accident happened, I did have to look to see where it had occurred, and saw it was a county away from where my relatives are.
