I leave here for about 3 weeks, and it's all gone downhill. What happened???? I might as well fill you in on my new job starting Monday.

The job I started about 3 weeks ago isn't all that bad. I enjoy being "out in the field" as a fire alarm inspector but the pay, benefits, and hours are awful. They started by messing around with my pay, dropping me down about $1 an hour from what I had remembered from the conversation/job offer. Then the hours started changing around and you aren't supposed to get overtime for it... not sounding very good to me at all. So I e-mailed back the other job offer I had at the state offices. They said as long as I start Monday (tomorrow), I could still work there. So I went in to my boss and gave my 1/2 week's notice. Hopefully this job goes better, the ride there is going to be awful, but it is working for the state. So... Wish me luck!! Perhaps they'll let me be on the internet, then you'll see me more often.

Anyways, have a great week!!

Well, they check to make sure the smoke alarms are working correctly with specific devices designed for such a thing. Some smoke detectors are checked for the amount of "smoke" they can handle before they go off, others are just checked to see if they go off. Fire alarm inspectors must inspect everything that would cause an alarm even to make sure that pull stations (the thing on the wall that says "Pull here in case of Fire") work. They check the panels to make sure the alarm comes through and in about the correct area according to maps or zones. Then test the "bells" to make sure they go off and the lights go on (strobes - or some light - are now a requirement for audible and visual devices for alarms). There are other departments in the same company that check kitchen fire systems, fire pumps, extinguishers, sprinklers, etc.

Does real work mean Riff Raffing on company time, or actually working on company time
