Well, the bronchitis officially knocked me out of the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon on June 8th. There is no way I'll have the mileage to do a full marathon by then. So I decided I'd do the half on that day. Why not?

Then, to my surprise, another 1/2 marathon has sprung up. It's on May 17th, and only 1 1/2 hours from my home.

So, there is four weeks between the two races... Should I attempt to do both? Or just do one, and be done with it.

I am really leaning towards doing both right now, just wanted some of your experienced opinions.

I would sign up for the May half and see how that goes. If you're feeling up to it, then sign up for the June half. There should still be time, right, to sign up for the June half after the May half? Sounds like an opportunity for some good races. Dancing Banana

Yeah, I agree with Shel. I would wait until after the first to see how you are feeling before signing up for the second. Just in case!

My suggestion would be to get out of bed every morning and do some running. There's nothing like actually training for a race. Wink*

* There's a little dose of that public humiliation you were asking for.

Even though distance-wise, a halfM is half of 26.2, IMHO there isn't half the preparation, mileage, buildup, and all that good stuff. Really, I think a decent weekly routine with long runs building to say, 12 miles, shouldn't take you all that long. Two months, easy. Can you crank out 6 right now? Then add a mile each week until mid-May and you're there. Keep it up to the second one, you should be fine.

I'd pick the one that was most important to you, or if there isn't one, I'd go for the later one so you have more time to train and thus won't let your competitive self down if you're not up to your standards. I know how hard on ourselves we can be. It's one reason why I am downgrading to the 10K at Madison I think.
