Colin has a really good teacher this year. I would like to get him something extra special because he's gone way above and beyond his duties as a teacher.

He assigned my son extra books to read and report on outside of class--which gets from me a big thumbs up

He taught them really good study and writing skills. He is obviously preparing them for next year. He pushed and pushed them to learn new and more difficult things. (Another teacher in the same grade once told me--"These kids won't ever get this concept so I'm not even going to bother to teach it" Shocked )

What would be something meaningful and special to get him?

A mug or anything resembling an apple.
Better yet a mug with an apple on it. Wink

No really how about a gift certificate to a restaurant.

A nice note from you telling this great teacher exactly what you told us would mean a lot more than you know. After my first year teaching, I got a card from a student who thanked me for taking the time to get to know him, and make him do his work. He said I was the only teacher (an exageration, I'm sure) that made him stay awake during class etc... I still have that card. (It brought tears to my eyes, but don't tell anyone)

Ohhh, so you're really a softy??? <filing away info for use at a later date bwahahaha>

I wrote him a great note at Christmastime and got him some stationery and a Barnes and Noble giftcard.

Students come to me and tell me they are lucky to have him as a teacher because they feel that even though he's hard, they are learning more than the other section of students. (They have the other teacher I mentioned above) When kids are happy to be learning, you know he's doing something right!!!

The words of an appreciative parent are always nice.

Whatever the gift is, the more personal the better.
Like for me, if you did get a coffee mug, a San Diego Chargers or an LA Lakers mug would be alright.

(I'm not as anti-mug as Keltic.)(but it does need to be a cool mug)

So if this teacher has a favorite team? or something?(cat/dog???)
something along those lines could be cool.
