Keltic's!!!
My son has been in school since the beginning of September. Since then he has had 4 planning days (school starts at 10:30) 2 days off and 1 minimum day (school ends at noon).
This doesn't even count dr's appts!
Do other school districts have this many "planning" and minimum days per month?
His last district came in end of August and went until mid June. They never had early release days or late start (unless it was icy)

Do they still get their 180 days in?
What are the hour requirements there (time in classroom standards)? Do you know?

most of our time off comes from snow days. and this year it looks like we'll be doing more of that. the "No Child Left Behind Act" has been interpreted by PA in many ways, and now includes attendance requirements. we often lose students on "delays" because they just don't bother to come. so in order to keep our attendance percentages up, instead of delays, we will be cancelling. Tha makes sense, right?

I really have no idea. We've been through so many school districts, that I have them all confused.
I'm sure they get all their days in. It just seems like they have a lot of shortened days. I bet they'll make it up during spring break/Christmas break.

We have one holiday a month (or staff development), and during the State Testing period next semester, the Seniors will have a shortened day, but the other 3 grades will be testing.
We did have school cancelled for 2 days last year. (snow) Bet that doesn't happen again.
I'm applying to your son's district.

I think I posted about this, but out of the 32 days the kids miss this year, about 15 of those are "teacher workdays", days the kids miss but teachers do not. Ours do go for 180 teaching days, which is why we start in the august and end in june.
As a kid, we had a couple half days, which they called in-service days, spring break, christmas break, and 2 days off for turkey day, and maybe MLK... that was it. Seems like every time I turn around, my kids have 2 days off.
If the teachers need the time to plan the work, it's ok by me. After talking to Will's teacher and hearing about her life (she was in school full-time last year, plus teaching, plus has 4 kids of her own) I was that the woman had time to do anything.
Honestly though, I think we could do with shortened christmas break and getting rid of spring break altogether, and cut out a few of those holidays they get. That's just me though.
