Last night I dreamed that Mrs. P. dragged me out shopping again.
"Were going to shop till we drop" she said, brandishing her visa card.
But I dropped before I got to the shops.
I saw the shops and fell down in despair. I was struck down by a great sense of ruin and futility: a vision of ugliness, of stupidity and vanity and a world enslaved by its lazy wicked ways and its pompous appetites.
I blacked out in the car park and as I did I saw the star of Bethelem; and then a little baby sleeping and it was so peaceful - and I saw a cow too, and the sheep and the donkey.
It was beautiful
Isn't shopping a wonderful thing sometimes?

You know, as we were finishing some last minute shopping on behalf of my mother for my son's gift, I stood back and watched all the people rushing, all the rudeness in traffic, all the bright lights obstructing the natural starlight of the sky and all of the stores hoping to convince us to purchase their wares, I was saddened at the thought that this wasn't an isolated incident. This consumerism is every day, and I have bought into it almost as much as the next guy. Made me feel dirty.
