Posted: 06/11/04 - 18:43 Post subject: A response to a letter I wrote to CHOP's
CEO regarding continuing and ongoing problems I am having with the billing department. Since Abby sees or has seen 12 specialists, etc we are quite familiar with the billing dept. Some of them get it right some dont. Because of the continuing problems falling on deaf ears or blind eyes so to speak I decided the CEO needed a letter.
I wrote a very nasty letter to the billing dept, with a cc to the CEO and a letter to the CEO with a copy of the letter explaning my letter. I even sent in copies of bills, insurance cards and sections of the laws dealing with children such as Abby and billing practices.
The director of finance of CHOP called and left a message stating she was going to personal handle and correct this. She also gave me her personal/private number for me to communicate to her.
I was extremely nasty in the letter to the billing department, knowing that it was like the 30th time (no kidding) I have sent information and policys/procedures for sending bills. I was fed up. In my letter to the CEO I was cordial , concise but disgusted. I am glad to get some resolution and really do not like getting nasty but man did I get some action.

Invite them to speed in Radnor and tell them once in custody you will process them just as efficently. (What? The law says we aren't supposed to arrest you for a moving violation. Well, let me research this while you cool your heels.)

I remember similiar "problems" when my wife was going to get an "External Shock Wave Lithotripsy" to blast her kidney stones.
Our carrier at the time was CHAMPUS (Military). Well, this was a new procedure and so we were told we needed a waiver for the procedure. I could not see their logic in telling me they would not approve a basically outpatient procedure when the would approve a procedure that required major surgery, hospital stays and all.
I called the main CHAMPUS HQ and was told they had approved the procedure months ago. I asked them to send me all the info since the carrier had no idea what I was talking about. One I got the documents, every time I sent anything dealing with the procedure to the carrier, I included the pages from the CHAMPUS Manual.
It was a fun two weeks. Then, when I thought this was settled, one person calls me and says we need a "Non availability" document. I had to explain since we were outside any Military Hospital Zones we did NOT need this certificate - that worked also.
Bureaucracy is fun isn't it ? BTW GREAT job on the letter.

I'm glad you did that Joe but remember...it's all just 'nice talk' until something actually happens. It's a strategy of some. Keep promising and reassuring but never really do anything in the hopes that the customer/person just quits fighting...
