What's the deal with these? What makes them so desirable?
I've been looking for these on our property since we moved in, but have never spotted any.

They are delicious. Dense, woody, earthy, rich, velvety, all at the same time. Wonderful with leg of lamb and a nice red wine reduction.

They are darn tasty! A friend of mine used to get them by the 5 gallon bucket full off his property.

I only know they're expensive. Apparently they grow well in areas that have burnt, so there was a lot of harvesting here after the forest fire.

Disclaimer: this is a species of deadly Amanita...in other words a highly toxic mushroom, not an edible morel. It does not make you grow big or spit fireballs, although it may give you the sensation that are doing so... Eating this can result in dangerous side-effects such as hallucinations, coma, even death.
