I got socks from my SS last year. 
I'm hoping this year's Santa pays particular attention to the mention of a Jack Daniel on my list.

We don't officially but someone who no one can figure out gives everyone (20) in the dept a little gift left on their desk. We got ours today, really nice wooden nutcracker ornaments. In the past they've been little hand held games or mini snow globes or mini stockings filled with candy. Always very cute and still no one knows who does it (or claims to do it).

we did a "boo" for Halloween. a "treat bag" appeared on our desks with instructions to fill 2 bags and "boo" someone else. in that case, I felt obligated to participate, but not real happy about doing it. For Christmas, people signed up for Secret Santa, I opted out. However I was met with a "bill" for my part of the Christmas gifts for the support staff of the school. I still haven't given them the money.

I once worked for a company that had a post-holiday White Elephant luncheon. That was great! Each participant brought in something they received that they hated, had no use for, or received multiples of but could not return and put it on a table. Then everyone took turns selecting an item they would like from the pile of cow-orker gift castoffs. Got great stuff that way.

We have a dept Christmas lunch every year. It was suggested this year we could have a 'white elephant' themed party but this time it could be a 'white elephant account' party, where we could each pass off our PITA clients unknowingly to others...it didn't fly, something about us being fired if we did. I thought it sounded like a great idea (read: I have a lot of PITA clients)

Yes. We had SS, but I never participated. I always felt that my gift/s were going to be stupid. So...I got to help organize the SS with the staff.
It was always fun on my end of it knowing the SS's.

UPDATE:
I have an envelope on my desk right now in which some "good" person has decided that the support staff in this building deserves a Christmas gift from the "professionals" that work here. So the office, cafeteria, and custodial staff are about to be gifted. The amount decided on (by whom, I have no idea) is about $330, and I have been informed that my share is $8.50 cash only, no checks.
I would prefer to gift those people that I have some affection or connection to, not just a general, great big gift to all. I resent that this was not presented as an option to give. And I resent being told the amount I owe.

Wow, that's ballsy. You should resent it. The only time I ever got a group gift was my first job in the city. I was an admin assistant who supported 3 guys mainly, but pitched in periodically for another 10 people. They all pooled their money and gave me and the other 3 admins a pile of cash, which was significant. With it I bought a beautiful black cashmere overcoat that I still love, that I only could have afforded with this gift money. I often think about that job when I wear it. Because I knew these people and worked closely with them, it really meant something. If it would've been from another source I certainly would have enjoyed the cash, but not felt sentiment. Tell them you already gave and ignore it, unless there will be ramifications.

I'm a SAHM so no work, but I correspond with a great group of friends via email and we've organized a Secret Santa between the fifteen of us. It is a great way for us to keep together and share the holiday spirit, even though none of us ever see each other.
