So my packing up bike upgrade goodies came via FedEx on Saturday morning! Dancing Banana (sorry hup)

I immediately start to take apart my bike. For those of you that know a little about bikes, I'm upgrading from a 8 speed/triple Sora set up to a 9 speed double 105/Ultegra set up.

Replaced the bottom bracket. Hard to get the old one off, but I finally managed. Put new cranks and double chainrings on. The old bottom bracket sounded like a pepper mill when I turned it. Shocked

Removed old shifters and put new ones on. Still need to trim the cables to the right lengths, but that's low down on the list.

Replaced the rear derailleur no problem. Front derailleur also no problem.

So I'm down to the last component; the cassette. The dang thing won't budge. No matter how hard I try I can't get it to move. I even broke my vice trying to get it off. I gave up and brought it in to the LBS and they them take a stab at it.

Two guys in the shop both tried and they couldn't get it to budge. They told me that the cassette is stuck on the hub and that I need a new wheel. Dang! Mad Now it looks like it's going to happen a lot sooner than later.

I've borrowed the torch from work. Hopefully a little heat will help free up the lockring or I'll be buying a new set of wheels very very soon. Mad Mad Mad

What's the worst I can do? Ruin a wheel that's already supposedly trash?

what LBS? before you torch the wheel, take it to my bfs shop... they really can do almost anything, and will be honest if the wheel really is trash. the name is boneshakers in powder springs...

cool tidbit, part of the almost anything includes making a road bike out of a bmx frame for an 8 or 9 yr old...

Thanks for the offer, but I finally got the cassette pulled off. I just had to use the drill and drill away the lock ring in pieces. Shocked

Got everything back together finally. I just need to put a new chain on and I'll be all upgraded (except for wheels).
