Posted: 03/24/05 - 20:55 Post subject: 4 long, terrible days...help!
I've been having some pretty nasty pain in my foot (specifically, the plantar fascia, hmmm, wonder what it could be...?) and my dad won't take me to the doctor. He says I'll be told to stop running for a long while. So then he said four days without running should help.
4 days without it will drive me nuts.
I'll think I'll try mountain biking and weights. Any other ideas on what I can do to keep me sane? I don't want a miserable spring break.
Okay, sorry to complain. Guess I'm already starting to miss it.

breaking from running is hard for any devoted runner YR...so sorry you're still having foot pain. i'd take the break, do some crosstraining, and see how it feels after the rest. have you been icing the injury at all?
you really shouldn't ignore it anymore though. hoping for a fast healing for you.

what type of cross training?
Sorry I don't know this stuff, running is pretty much the only excercise I get. I'm working on changing that, though. I just have this little voice in my head that keeps of telling me running is more of a rush than any other sport could be.

You mentioned mountain biking. If you have access to some trails and a bike, do it! Mountain biking to me is a bigger rush than running at times, but I consistantly prefer running. Mountain biking is downright scary at times (which is a good thing).

mountain biking and weights are perfect...
weights won't give you the aerobic rush that running does, but it will burn energy in a different way by strengthening different muscles.
go biking, that should be more of a "rush" dont forget your helmet.

I've had bad experinces trying to follow my brother, who is an avid biker, on an advanced trail. I'm going to see if I can make it 15 or so miles on Monday. How much of a workout is it compared to running?

Depends on the trail. If it's a hard trail, 15 miles is FAR. I usually don't ride more than 10 or 15 and the trails here aren't very difficult. Usually takes me maybe an hour and a half or two hours to do that. It's not much of an aerobic workout, but your quads will take a beating. And it's mentally challenging too, something running usually isn't. And RR is right, WEAR A HELMET!

Do you have access to a pool. Swimming or running in the water would be good.
