Thanks for the topic suggestion cheryl.
I'm curious as to each person's three more important topics for the upcoming presidential election. I know putting aside the physical candidates & their personalities is very tough, but I want to know what issues are most important to you personally with minus three weeks and counting.

Good one....
Did anyone else sense that neither candidate felt comfortable talking about this in the last debate?
I have another one that is often over-looked....Energy Policy & Alternative sources of Energy...

I'd have to say that's one of the biggest issues to me. Not really in that it will decide if I vote or who I vote for, but I think it's an issue that isn't discussed enough. Within the next 40 years there will be an extreme change in energy sources, yet it's barely mentioned in any news, debate, etc.

1 Economy as it pertains to the amount of taxes I personally have to pay
2 Economy as it pertains to my job
3 The military stuff (homeland security and foreign policy)
*bonus: The pro choice / pro life thing
I'm a software developer and have concerns that so many IT jobs are going to other countries. W has said that is a good thing, so I know to expect more of the same from him. Kerry is against it... but he never came out and said exactly how he would stop it. I did hear him mention that he wouldn't give tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs, but I don't think that really makes me feel any more comfortable. Companies and Taxes seem to always have a way to work out for the companies in the end. So I didn't find that to be a huge deterent. No matter who wins, I think I'll be in the same boat. Or on one going to India to look for a job.
I think a lot of the other issues are similar in that the two candidates have voiced their opinions, but no matter who wins, you don't really get the feeling that anything is going to change or get resolved over the next 4 years.
No Child Left Behind has me equally confused. On one hand, I've always thought our public schools sucked. I'm from Mississippi and also lived in Tennessee, so my experience with public schools is going to be different than many people here. W did the NCLB Act, which in my mind was a great start. He recognized there was a problem. He did something. But the something likely isn't the right solution. Teachers hate it, students are being taught to pass tests, and there isn't enough funding. However, they claim educational funding has gone up 46%. Which is a plus. I think if you want good teachers, you have to make the job pay well. Until then, rural and inner city schools will always have kids falling behind. The current situation appears to put tons of accountability on teachers (good thing) that only make around $30k a year (bad thing). Why make their job harder when they don't really get paid enough to give a crap to begin with?

How do you feel about school vouchers or privatizing schools? i.e. letting private corporations come in and run them?
