Let's all join a new 'club' this year.

Pick a distance, then a time. If you can beat the time in a race this year for that distance, then you 'join the club'. Which puts you in the club with the other Riff Raffers that also successfully met their time/distance goals.

This can be either an addition or a replacement for Cappy's 2004 in 2004 or 26.2 per week in 2004 challenge. Depending on which club you want to join, you will likely have to hit one of his challenges by default.

Examples:

A VERY popular club that many runners try to join is the:

sub 20 5k (men) / sub 21 5k (women) club

or the

sub 40 10k (m) / sub 44 10k (w) club wjocj is pretty popular, too

Sub 90 min half marathon, sub 4 marathon are good longer goals

Another way to spin it: a 21:42 5k, 43:24 10k, or 1:31:29 half puts you at sub 7 minute miles.

Don't be shy to go sub 9, sub 8, sub 7, sub 7:45, sub 6:55, etc. Just pick a time and distance that you feel you could hit if you worked for it.

I'm going to join the sub 18 minute 5k club this year. Or I'll buy everyone at Riff Raff a cheese pizza.

Sub 90 half is on my mind, but I have to check the race schedule out before I commit. (oh yes, feel free to join as many 'clubs' as you like... start small and build up)

Next?

I have many clubs to join this year and I have both short term (I have 3 races this spring) and long term goals.

19 min 5k this April
sub 18 5k by year's end

41 min 10k this April
38 min 10k by year's end

32 min 8k this May
sub 30 8k by year's end

sub 1:30 Half marathon by year's end

All these goals for road races only (I might do a couple of trail races this year depending on my race schedule)

I want to join the sub 19 5K club and sub 40 10K club, but I think I may have to up those goals soon. I think I'm about ready to break through on both of those. I think I've got a sub 1:30 half lurking in me somewhere too.

All of you are way too fast for me.

I will be really happy with a sub 3:30:59 for the marathon this November.

the PR club......any PR at any distance. I'm thinking my 5 miler is the softest. (actually ?? if I really know it) But as I tend to train only for long distance......marathon PR this fall would be supah.

I'll proxy you for the long runs, if you cover me for the 10K and below.
